Italian journalist Mario Sconcerti believes the Inter had a strong transfer window in spite of severe budgetary restrictions over the summer.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster TMW Radio, as reported by FCInterNews, the journalist gave his view that the Nerazzurri were the club who best navigated the difficult financial conditions of the transfer window among Serie A’s major teams.

The Nerazzurri’s financial issues were well-known going into the summer, though the decision to sell Romelu Lukaku after already seeing Achraf Hakimi depart came as a surprise to many.

In spite of this, multiple major arrivals came in to the club, including players who arrived for no or nominal fees, and so far the new arrivals have made a major impact in Inter’s strong start to the season.

Sconcerti singles out Hakan Calhanoglu, who arrived from city rivals AC Milan on a free transfer, and former Roma striker Edin Dzeko who was signed for only a nominal fee.

“The fact that everyone is lacking money does not mean that there is nothing that can be done,” he said.

He went on, “Good ideas were more important than being able to spend. Even Inter, who have been in great economic difficulty, have taken players like Dzeko and Calhanoglu for nothing. The ideas went hand in hand with the money available, which was scarce for everyone.”
