Ex-Inter striker Romelu Lukaku has explained how Chelsea are the only team he would have ever left the Nerazzurri for this summer but he felt that he had to go, according to a report in the Belgian media today.

Whilst speaking to Belgian media outlet HLN, the striker explained that Inter had pulled him out of a really tough time in his career and that there is only one team he could have considered joining at such short notice.

“With Chelsea’s third offer I knew it was serious and my head was no longer in Milan.

“Chelsea offered €110 million-plus Zappacosta, but Inter said no. I went to Inzaghi’s office to find an agreement.

“I was at Inter, but my mind was already at Chelsea.

“Inter pulled me out of sh*t, I would have left the Nerazzurri only for the Blues.”

The difficult period that Romelu Lukaku is referring to is the end of his time at Manchester United. After a very bright start following his £75 million move from fellow Premier League side Everton, Romelu Lukaku struggled to hit the goal-scoring heights that were expected from him.

Whilst still being useful to the team, he did not improve much when Jose Mourinho was sacked and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was put in charge.

His career was revitalised when he was at Inter.
