Simone Inzaghi’s father, Giancarlo Inzaghi, has explained how his son is happy and enjoying his new job at Inter after spending so long at Lazio, according to a report in the Italian media.
Speaking during an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport, Giancarlo Inzaghi explained that Simone Inzaghi knew that the time had come to move on from Lazio, a club he has played for and worked at for 22 years.
“He knew everyone at Lazio, that was his home. But he understood that the time had come to break away and at Inter he immediately entered well.
“He tells me that he is happy, that the managers are very good, that they have been able to react very well to the sale of Lukaku and to the economic difficulties.”
Speaking specifically about the sale of Romelu Lukaku, Giancarlo Inzaghi revealed that his son did his best to try and convince the Belgian to stay at Inter but it was clear that his heart was set on Chelsea.
“The phone rings and the Belgian’s name appears on the display. ‘I already know what you want to tell me’.
“Lukaku reiterated that in the few training sessions they had done together he had a great time with him, but that he could not stay. My son tried to convince him: ‘Here you are the king, in London it will be different’.
“But he had no chance. It was a heavy transfer, ‘like losing three players in one go,’ he told me. But then he empowered the others, encouraging them to show that they are strong and competitive even without Lukaku.”
This is the first time that Simone Inzaghi has been part of a side that are expected to at least make a credible title challenge, and that is apparently keeping Simone Inzaghi up at night.
“The pressures for Simone are greater, can also be understood from another detail. He sleeps a little less now, his wife Gaia also tells me.
“But he always dedicates a lot to his children: Andrea, the little one, has started walking. He lives in the center, a beautiful house near the Vertical Forest.”
On Joaquin Correa, it is clear that Simone Inzaghi wanted him fo this talent, not just because they used to work together.
“He didn’t want him because he knows him, but because he considers him very strong and able to make a difference by playing alongside any other striker.”
And finally on Christian Eriksen, Giancarlo Inzaghi explains how his son would love to have the Dane as part of the team.
“He is very sorry for his health problems, also because he would have made him the pivot of the team. Simone dotes on him, we hope he can solve everything and get back to playing.”
