Inter are the favourites to sign Ajax goalkeeper Andre Onana next summer, with the Cameroonian expected to join on a free transfer when his current deal with the Dutch champions runs out.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, who report that the 25-year-old is ready to join the Nerazzurri in a year’s time and will do so unless there are unexpected occurrences.

Onana’s contract with Ajax is set to expire at the end of June 2022, and with no agreement on an extension in sight with the Amsterdam-based club he can leave as a free agent next summer.

Inter have been pursuing him and he is reportedly happy with the prospect of joining, although it is not ruled out that another club could swoop for him in January.

Meanwhile, it is not clear that Samir Handanovic will stay any longer than next summer when his current contract expires, but the current Nerazzurri Number One is not expected to be trusted as a first-choice option beyond that and Onana is set to replace him, though the Cameroonian would not be moved for in January unless Handanovic’s form collapses.
