New signing Denzel Dumfries is set to be phased into the Inter starting lineup soon, and could even make his debut from the start as early as the Champions League clash with Real Madrid next week.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who report that the Dutch wing-back is close to being ready to be trusted with a regular starting role and that he could be given a baptism by fire in the Champions League group stage opener.

Dumfries has been a bit-part player in the Nerazzurri’s opening two Serie A matches of the season, appearing for a few minutes off the bench against the Genoa while Matteo Darmian has been entrusted with the starting right-sided role while the 25-year-old works his way to full match fitness.

However, he played for ninety minutes for the Netherlands against Montenegro on Saturday and looks to be very close to make more of an impact for his club.

Inter coach Simone Inzaghi will hand the Dutchman his starting debut soon, and it could be as early as the encounter with Real Madrid next week.
