Inter midfielder Nicolo Barella has received positive, if not spectacular, reviews for his performance with the Italian national team in a 2022 World Cup qualifier against Switzerland.

After a somewhat improved performance compared to the one he put in against Bulgaria, the 24-year-old was granted scores of 6 and 6.5/10 for his display against Murat Yakin’s Swiss side.

Barella appeared for virtually the entire match against the Swiss, only being taken off for Matteo Pessina in the ninetieth minute, and while he was not able to decisively affect the game and deliver three points to the Azzurri, his display was solid and he was praised for the energy he brought to the pitch.

Barella has become a major figure in Roberto Mancini’s Azzurri setup on the back of his strong displays with Inter since joining in the summer of 2019, winning the Euros starting regularly, and he looks set to be a significant contributor to the Azzurri for the years to come.

The Gazzetta dello Sport and Corriere dello Sport gave Barella a 6.5/10 for his performance against the Swiss, while Tuttomercatoweb and Tuttosport deemed it worthy of a 6/10 score.
