Italian journalist Fabrizio Biasin believes that former Inter striker Romelu Lukaku forced the club’s hand and made them sell him to Chelsea over the summer.

Writing in his column for Tuttomercatoweb.com, the journalist gives his view that Lukaku wanted the move away and that he deceived the club by returning to training saying he was ready to start the new season with his club before asking for a move away.

Lukaku’s departure was highly controversial, and the circumstances of his sale to Chelsea last month remain in some dispute.

The Blues came in with a significant financial offer for the Belgian, and were persistent in returning with improved offers after the Nerazzurri turned down their initial approach.

In the end, the striker’s sale was approved by the Nerazzurri’s owners because of its financial benefit despite the apprehension of some key sporting figures at the club, though Biasin emphasizes that the player himself may have had a key role in moving ahead with the sale.

He writes, “Here’s another joke. Lukaku said the other day, ‘When Chelsea’s third offer arrived I went to Inzaghi to find a deal.’ A deal? In what sense? Let’s put it as it is: you forced the club’s hand to allow you to leave, nothing about an agreement.”

“And this sentence makes us understand that the gentleman who said, ‘I’m back in Milan to start over!’ did nothing but deceive everyone,” Biasin concludes, “only to leave them in the lurch. Did he have the right to leave? Maybe. But there was no need to lie.”
