Inter midfielder Stefano Sensi could appear for the Italian national team tomorrow, according to Azzurri head coach Roberto Mancini.
Speaking in a press conference ahead of the Azzurri’s World Cup qualifying clash with Lithuania tomorrow, Mancini explained that the 26-year-old was not used in the first two fixtures of Italy’s international break schedule because of a minor injury, but that he could make an appearance tomorrow.
Sensi missed out on attending the Euros with Italy through injury having also been ruled out of large portions of the club season with the Nerazzurri due to fitness problems, but he will be aiming for more consistency this season for both club and country.
“Sensi is fine now,” Mancini said of the Nerazzurri midfielder, “he had had an injury problem at the beginning of the week, and we rested him so as not to take any risks. Tomorrow he could play in the match.”
Of another Nerazzurri midfielder, Nicolo Barella, Mancini suggested that there is a good likelihood that the 24-year-old will not start the Lithuania clash tomorrow, and that he is instead likely set to start on the bench and be given a rest after starting the first two matches of the international break.
“He has played two games and is on a caution,” Mancini explainedm “so [Atalanta midfielder Matteo] Pessina playing in his place is a possibility. We’ll evaluate him too, he is the natural replacement.”
