Legendary former Inter defender Beppe Bergomi has given the view that his former club are capable of making a good impression in the Champions League this season.

Speaking to Italian news outlet Calcio Today, Bergomi rated the Nerazzurri’s chances in Europe’s top competition and suggested that there was reason for optimism about their performance this season.

The Nerazzurri have enjoyed good results domestically in the past few seasons, following up two fourth-place finishes and a second-place finish with last season’s Scudetto triumph, their first in eleven years.

It has been a different story in Europe, however, where despite having appeared in a Europa League final in the summer of 2020, Inter have not been able to escape the group stage of the Champions League.

This season, progressing to the knockout round is a significant part of the club’s agenda, and Bergomi believes that this objective will be attainable for the team.

“The Nerazzurri are in a complicated group,” he said, “but they have all the tools  to go through. Of course, we shouldn’t take anything for granted because it won’t be easy against Real Madrid and Shakhtar. However, Inter are less predictable than last year and I am optimistic.”

He went on, “In the Champions League we need more dribbling and quality in the attacks, and I am of the opinion that Inter have increased their technical level this year.”
