Inter have not yet begun contract extension talks with captain Samir Handanovic, and the goalkeeper’s situation at the club beyond next summer is very much unclear.

This according to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, who report that the club are still some ways from offering the 37-year-old a new contract, with his current deal set to expire at the end of June 2022.

Handanovic has been an important player for Inter since joining from Udinese in the summer of 2012, remaining the undisputed first-choice keeper for nearly a decade, but given his age the club are ready to move on from the Slovenian.

There is no guarantee that the current Number One will depart next summer, as there is still a possibility that an agreement will be found on a renewal before that time, but for the moment there are no indication that any such agreement is close at hand, meaning that he could be on his way out in less than twelve months.
