A former Napoli and Juventus midfielder has explained that it will be difficult for his two former sides to compete with the teams in Milan this season, according to a report in the Italian print media.

Speaking during an interview with Tuttosport, Massimo Mauro explained that unless the two new coaches at Napoli and Juventus work miracles, they will not be able to compete with Inter or AC Milan in the 2021/22 Serie A campaign.

“Either Spalletti and Allegri work miracles, or it will be difficult to compete with Inter and Milan.

“At Juventus there is the habit of success developed in the last ten years. As for Napoli, I do not think that discrediting football helps to win and I am referring to De Laurentiis.

“If you say that winning does not count you create an alibi for the players. It’s not the way to make a group successful.”

AC Milan are the only one of the four teams mentioned who are playing under the same manager that they were using last season, with Stefano Piolo.

Gennaro Gattuso left Napoli to join up with Fiorentina but he then qut that job after 21 days over transfer disagreements with the ownership of La Viola. Juventus sacked Andrea Pirlo and reappointed Massimiliano Allegri.

Massimo Mauro played 102 times for Juventus in his career before he moved to Napoli where he played 64 times.
