Atalanta striker Duvan Zapata came extremely close to joining Inter last month as the direct replacement for Romelu Lukaku, according to a report in the Italian media this evening

As has been reported tonight by FCInter1908, the only reason that the Colombian striker did not join up with the Nerazzurri is that Atalanta was not able to find a replacement of their own at such short notice.

The agreement between Inter and Duvan Zapata had already been reached and it appears that Inter were willing to pay the price that La Dea had put on the strikers head.

If Atalanta were able to sign someone else then Duvan Zapata would have immediately joined up with Inter and then Joaquin Correa would never have joined Inter.

Many other players such as Marcus Thuram and Luka Jovic were also linked with Inter during this period where Simone Inzaghi knew he needed one more player.
