Inter are likely to sign Ajax goalkeeper Andre Onana next summer, with the Cameroonian appearing to have been identified as the long-term successor to Samir Handanovic at the Giuseppe Meazza.

This according to Italian journalist Niccolo Ceccarini, who writes for Tuttomercatoweb that the Nerazzurri are in pole position for Onana’s signature as they continue to press forward with their move for him.

Onana is out of contract at the end of June 2022, and with no agreement having been found with the Dutch champions on a renewal he could be available on a free transfer next summer when his current deal expires.

Inter are interested in bringing the 25-year-0ld in, and according to Ceccarini they are poised to do so unless anything unexpected transpires, as the process of making him a Nerazzurri player is well underway.

Surprises cannot be discounted especially with other clubs potentially interested in the Cameroonian on a free transfer, but it currently appears that the Nerazzurri are firm favourites for his signature.

“The Nerazzurri are increasingly pressing for Onana,” Ceccarini writes. “The Ajax goalkeeper’s contract is about to expire and has refused both a sale and a renewal, as explained by Sporting Director Mark Overmars. If there will be no big surprises, next year he will move to Inter.”
