Inter midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu has the unique distinction of being behind only PSG forward Lionel Messi in the list of players with the most free-kick goals in Europe since the 2013-14 season.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who highlight that the 27-year-old’s fourteen strikes on target puts him ahead of everyone besides the former Barcelona player and multiple-time Ballon D’Or winner.

Calhanoglu has already gotten off the mark for Inter, scoring in the opening day 4-0 win over Genoa at the Giuseppe Meazza, though he has not yet converted a free kick for the Nerazzurri.

Between his time with the likes of Hamburg, Bayer Leverkusen, and AC Milan, however, he has scored a total of fourteen direct free kicks.

This puts him ahead of the likes of Paulo Dybala and Miralem Pjanic, who have scored thirteen and ten direct free kicks respectively, while Cristiano Ronaldo is well in the distance with eight.
