Italian journalist Luigi Garlando believes that Inter will have to improve their attacking play as a unit now that Romelu Lukaku is no longer at the club and can’t be relied on to create danger on his own.

Writing in his column for Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport in yesterday’s print edition, the journalist gave the view that Lukaku allowed Inter to score goals with his individual brilliance, and that no one in the squad currently can replicate this quality.

Lukaku’s shock departure for Chelsea over the summer saw the Nerazzurri lose a player who had topped Serie A for joint goals and assists among the other qualities which he added to the team on the way to the Scudetto.

Edin Dzeko and Joaquin Correa have arrived as attacking reinforcements following his departure, and both have already showed their quality in an Inter shirt in the early part of the season, but Garlando contends that there has been no true replacement for Lukaku.

“Inter lost their talisman this summer (Lukaku) and know very well that, in difficult situations, they cannot launch the long ball and hope that their Number Nine will find a goal on his own, as the Belgian did on Saturday with Aston Villa to give Chelsea the victory” he writes.

“Last season, in one of the rare games that Lukaku didn’t start, Inter lost to Sampdoria at the Marassi,” Garlando goes on. “Yesterday during a bad performance from Lukaku’s replacement, Dzeko, Inter dropped their first points of the season.”

He writes, “Twice they led and twice the were pegged back, which should not happen with a team aspiring to the title. Real Madrid, who scored five yesterday against Celta Vigo, will need more attention.”
