Former AC Milan and Real Madrid coach Favio Capello believes that Inter will have to be careful not to leave themselves open to Real Madrid on the break in this evening’s Champions League clash.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia ahead of the match, the 75-year-old gave the view that the Nerazzurri’s approach must be geared towards avoiding allowing the Merengues to execute dangerous counter-attacks.

Capello gave his thoughts on the kind of match that the Champions League group stage opener at the San Siro will be, and suggested the types of tactics that will be effective for Inter should they wish to get the better of the La Liga leaders on the night.

He specifically talked about the kind of striker that Edin Dzeko is compared to the man he replaces, and considered how this will change the Nerazzurri’s game plan.

“This Real lost two central defenders,” he explained. “If Lukaku had still been around it would have been much easier for Inter. Dzeko does not have his characteristics, the ability to attack in behind with pace. But he has superior technical quality. Inter will have to play a different game to allow Edin to score.”

The former coach believes that Real manager Carlo Ancelotti will look to use counter-attacking tactics, stating “If Inter moves very forward and leaves the three defenders with space behind, Vinicius’s speed could create major problems so pay attention to sReal Madrid’s pace on the break. Because Real is still at a high level in terms of technical quality.”
