Former Juventus and Lazio winger Romulo is unsure if Inter will be able to go all the way and defend their Scudetto crown this season.

Speaking to Italian news outlet TuttoJuve.com, the 34-year-old gave his views on the Italian title race this season, and suggested that the departure of Antonio Conte could be the decisive factor which keeps the Nerazzurri from winning Serie A once again.

Last season, the Nerazzurri won their first Scudetto in eleven years and did so in emphatic fashion, finishing twelve points clear of their nearest rivals in the table.

This season, however, could be a different matter, with a summer of upheaval resulting in a very different Nerazzurri team in some respects, led by former Lazio manager Simone Inzaghi rather than departed coach Conte.

Inter still look to be one of the strongest sides in the Italian top flight after three matches, but for Romulo it will be the absence of Conte who left in the summer which leaves big question marks over their ability to defend last season’s title.

“Inter without Conte who is the best Italian coach around are not the same team as last year and I do not know if they will finish top with Inzaghi,” said the Brazilian.
