Inter CEO Beppe Marotta has given an update about the renewal of Lautaro Martinez’s contract with the Nerazzurri, which he expects to be announced soon.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Amazon Prime before today’s Champions League group stage opener against Real Madrid, the CEO gave his thoughts on the significance of this evening’s match while also speaking briefly about the Argentine striker’s contract situation.

Inter come up against a tough opponent in Real, specifically a team who have managed to get the better of them twice last season as they crashed out of the group stage of Europe’s top competition, but Marotta believes that they have what it takes to make the right impression this season.

“We must understand that we have a history full of successes and a trophies to defend. We come up against against a team of the calibre of Real Madrid, among the strongest in the world, but there is a great desire to do well,” he said.

He went on, “I expect a lot from the team, we have players who can make the difference. Dzeko is a great professional, we had the opportunity to take advantage of his situation and we are happy. Tonight it does not depend only on him but the whole team, I am very optimistic.”

On Martinez’s contract situation, the CEO was clear that things are going well, and he anticipates that a positive resolution will come which will see the 24-year-old commit his future to the Nerazzurri very soon.

“We must act to keep our players happy and committed to the club,” Marotta said. “He arrived at a very young age and then proved his talents. It is right to reward him with an appropriate contract which refelcts his performances. This is a policy that we will also keep with other players. The announcement will come shortly.”
