Ex-Inter defender Michele Serena has explained what he likes about the new look Inter side under Simone Inzaghi, according to a report in the Italian media.

Speaking during an interview with Calciomercato.it, Michele Serena expressed his interest and admiration for the mixture Inter have of different types of striker.

The two players he picked out were Edin Dzeko and Joaquin Correa who were both signed to offset the departure of Romelu Lukaku to Chelsea.

“It’s early, but I like Inzaghi as a coach. They have what it takes to continue what they did last year even though two important players have left.

“I really like the Dzeko-Correa mix, then there’s Lautaro who is about to renew. They were quick to find replacements.

“Once Lukaku left, they tried to replace him in the best possible way by taking two strong players, with different characteristics and who can also play together.

“They formed a very strong triptych up front, one of the strongest in the league.”

Michele Serena has slightly less admiration for the role that Hakan Calhanoglu has been playing for the side because it is a different role to the one he played at AC Milan. For the Rossoneri he would always be directly behind the striker, but under Simone Inzaghi he has been part of a flat midfield three.

“I think we are used to seeing him in a more advanced position. I am curious in the new position that Inzaghi has chosen.

“He plays with a typical mezzala, even at Lazio he did it with Milinkovic and Luis Alberto. I am curious to see him, now it is still early. The approach, especially in the first season, can hardly be forgotten.”

Michele Serena was a right back for a series of Italian clubs including Inter, Juventus, Venezia, Fiorentina and many more.
