The referee in charge of Inter’s 1-0 defeat to Real Madrid in the Champions League on Wednesday night has been praised for keeping the game relatively calm, according to a report in the Italian print media today.

As has been reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport, Daniel Siebert only made one clear error during what was a very even-tempered game to keep control of.

The mistake came after quarter of an hour when Real Madrid right back Dani Carvajal performed a tactical foul on Inter’s Matteo Darmian, but Daniel Siebert decided not to award the Spaniard with a yellow card.

This could be to do with how early it was in the game. The referee was praised fo not giving a penalty when there was some very light contact in the box between Milan Skriniar and Real Madrid winger Lucas Vazquez.

He was also praised for booking David Alaba towards the end of the game.
