Inter coach Simone Inzaghi has suggested his side were simply unlucky to come away from San Siro with a 1-0 defeat against Real Madrid, according to a report in the Italian broadcast media.

Speaking in a press conference after the match on Wednesday night, as reported by FcINternews, Simone Inzaghi explained that his team had the perfect game plan and the only thing that scuppered it was the quality of Real Madrid goalkeeper, Thibaut Courtois.

“We had a perfect game plan, but then we found a strong goalkeeper. The performance was excellent, there is regret because we wanted to give the fans a positive result.”

Simone Inzaghi believes that Inter did not deserve to lose the game and claims that Carlo Ancelotti agrees with him.

“It’s normal that I’m sorry because, as seen on the pitch, we didn’t deserve to lose. Carlo Ancelotti also said the same.

“We should have converted the opportunities created; Thibaut Courtois made huge saves, after that they worried us more in the second half, it’s true.”

The coach has come under fire for the substitutions he made during the match, but he claims he made those changes to keep the intensity high after the players had worked so hard in the first half.

“I wanted the same attitude. In the first half, we had spent a lot of energy, I hurried the changes because I wanted to keep the intensity high.”

When asked if the substitutes in question gave him less of a performance than he expected, Simone Inzaghi disagreed.

“No, I think there are just moments in the match. It should not be forgotten that we were playing against Real Madrid, among the favourites to win the Champions League.

“We deserved something different on points.”
