Inter could now find themselves only able to finish in second place at best from their Champions League group after the defeat to Real Madrid, according to a report in the Italian print media today.

As has been reported by Tuttosport, the defeat to Real Madrid at San Siro on Wednesday night means that Real Madrid have the chance to run away at the top of the group and leave Inter scrapping with Shakhtar Donetsk and FC Sheriff Tiraspol for second place.

Assuming they do not continue this form, the 2-0 win that FC Sheriff recorded over Shakhtar Donetsk on Wednesday could be very valuable to Inter. It would have been a major problem to be three points behind the Ukrainians and Real Madrid after one game.

Real Madrid and Carlo Ancelotti are Champions League specialists, however, so it is unlikely that they will relinquish the grip they no have on Group D.
