Inter striker Lautaro Martinez is focused on the positives after last night’s Champions League defeat against Real Madrid, in which the Nerazzurri were disappointed to lose 1-0 despite a very encouraging performance.

Speaking to Italian news outlet ITV after the match, the Argentine gave his immediate reaction to the match and emphasized that the team need to keep looking ahead rather than dwelling on the defeat.

Inter are in a busy period of their schedule, with two games a week until October, and they will need to be able to put any disappointment caused by the last-minute defeat by Carlo Ancelotti’s men at the San Siro behind them so that they can focus on the challenges to come across both Serie A and the Champions League.

The Nerazzurri showed positive signs throughout last night’s Champions League group stage opener and Martinez believes that if they keep focusing on the positives and playing with confidence then they will be able to achieve their goals.

“We know what this competition means and who we were facing,” he said of the match. “If you don’t score then in the end they can take the spoils, as happened.”

The Argentine spoke about his priorities, saying that “We have to stay focused, keep working and always move forward. We have to improve on the things that we did wrong but also look at the things we did will tonight, which were many.”

About this weekend’s Serie A opponents Bologna he said, “They’re a tricky team who are very physical, we have to rest and then think about the next match. The fans are always close to us, we hope to soon give them a win to celebrate as they deserve.”
