Italian journalist, Mario Sconcerti, has suggested that Inter put in one of their best European performances in recent memory against Real Madrid on Wednesday night, despite losing the game, according to a report in the Italian media today.

Whilst writing about the match for Corriere della Sera, Mario Sconcerti explained that Inter played like a team who know how to have success in Europe, which is not how they played in this tournament last season.

“If Real Madrid are good, Inter are good too. They are much better than a year ago, because the team has grown and because this growth is managed by a normal man, who lets the players express themselves.”

Mario Sconcerti also explained that neither team did too much excessive running during the game because they both knew how to control possession whilst not exerting too much energy. Out of the two though, Inter were better at this in the first half.

“Between Inter and Real Madrid, no one runs too much because they are both comparing possession and quality.

“Inter were decidedly superior at that. There are three obvious chances to score against perhaps one for Real Madrid.

“In summary, it was one of the best Inter performances of the recent past in Europe.”

Inter had many more chances to win the game than Real Madrid had, and that shows that they have what it takes to be successful in this tournament, according to Mario Sconcerti.

“The reality is that Inter have tried to score more often. The game, however, tells a basic truth, Inter belong in the Champions League. There are intact conditions to be competitive, especially after Shakhtar lost their first game.
