Inter defender Matteo Darmian has suggested that Inter were the superior team in their defeat against Real Madrid in the Champions League on Wednesday night, according to a report in the Italian broadcast media.

Speaking about the match to Amazon Prime Video, with quotes reported by FCInter1908, Matteo Darmian pointed out all the good elements of Inter’s play against the Spanish giants.

Inter were very dominant for the first half and missed plenty of great opportunities to take the lead, with Edin Dzeko and Lautaro Martinez both missing chances.

“We take away the many good things we have done, we showed what we wanted from the first minute, we dominated a difficult match with a strong opponent.

“We can’t add anything else, we just missed the goal. Unfortunately, we have granted one at the end.”

Matteo Darmian then explained that Inter can use the anger from the late Rodrygo winner and funnel it onto their next games. It is vital that the Nerazzurri get back to winning ways as soon as possible.

“There is some regret to be transformed into anger and energy for the continuation of our journey. They did well on the goal, we must give credit to their good play.

“Unfortunately they scored when there was little time left and we didn’t have time to put it back together.”

He was then asked if Inter were the better team in the match, and the ex-Manchester United defender seemed to agree with that statement.

“From what we saw we were superior. We try to take the field with this desire and try to win every game. Football is like this and we find ourselves talking about an undeserved defeat.”
