Legendary former Inter striker Antonio Cassano believes that Inter created enough chances against Real Madrid on Wednesday that they could have won the match easily.

Speaking on Christian Vieri’s Twitch channel, as reported by FCInterNews, Cassano gave the view that the Nerazzurri had chances to get the result against the Merengues but did not take advantage of them and in the end were shocked by the late goal from Carlo Ancelotti’s men.

Inter will have hoped to get their Champions League group stage off to the right start, with qualification for the knockout rounds a priority after having endured disappointing early exits at the last three times of asking.

Their performance against Real at the San Siro showed attacking intent and they created chances to get the better of the Merengues especially in the first half, but in the end they were stunned by a last-minute winner from Real substitute Rodrygo having failed to get on the scoresheet with any of the chances which they created.

Cassano believes that this is how it goes in Europe’s top competition, stating that “The first half should have ended 3-0 for the Nerazzurri, Inter played better than Real. The problem against these teams is that they have to be put away immediately, otherwise they’ll hurt you. Real Madrid were a bit out of sorts, Inter had to score.”
