Inter midfielder Matias Vecino is not getting too focused on his goal today, and the thing that makes him happiest is to have seen his team get an important victory.
Speaking to Inter TV after this evening’s 6-1 rout of Bologna at the San Siro, the Uruguayan gave his immediate reaction to the match and spoke of how pleased he was for the team.
Inter bounced back from disappointment in their Champions League group stage opener against Real Madrid in midweek to earn an emphatic win over Bologna in Serie A, and Vecino got on the scoresheet in his first start of the season.
The former Fiorentina man met the ball at the far post past after it had evaded several teammates and defenders, and his run was rewarded with an easy finish to cap off a fairly solid display. He also made the run to release Denzel Dumfries and allow the Dutchman to assist Lautaro Martinez’s crucial opening goal.
“[Reacting to the Real defeat wasn’t easy],” he said, “and then Bologna are a good team and they are in good form. However, we managed to immediately take the opportunities to dictate the game. Scoring a goal right away was important to put the game down.”
On his return to Tuscany to face his former side La Viola this coming Tuesday, the 30-year-old stated, “It’s always nice to be back in Florence, they brought me to Italy and so I love them.”
And on his goal, Vecino explained, “I had a bit of luck in scoring because the ball passed between Denzel and Edin Dzeko’s legs, but it means I still had to be there. Was it destiny? Let’s say yes.”
