Inter Vice-President Javier Zanetti has given his appraisal of the Nerazzurri’s next Champions League opponents, Moldovan champions Sheriff Tiraspol.

Speaking to Argentine news outlet Marca en Zona, as reported by FCInterNews, the Argentine gave the view that the Champions League debutants have gotten their first ever campaign in the competition off to the perfect start.

Inter will know that they cannot underestimate the qualities of Sheriff Tiraspol when they travel Transnistria to face them in the Champions League.

Despite being new boys in Europe’s top competition, Sheriff have shown their qualities throughout the qualification process for the group stage, and then went on to achieve a win against Group D rivals Shakhtar Donetsk, a major result.

Zanetti praised their start to the Champions League group stage among other views that he gave on the competition now that it is back underway once again.

“I am happy for the return of the Champions League,” said the Vice-President, “a competition that always makes us feel great emotions, and above all because fans have returned to the stadiums, what which makes us very happy. People are back to enjoying football after a long time.”

Zanetti believes that the shock results of the round were “The defeat of Manchester United and the draw of Paris Saint-Germain which for me is the most surprising. When one looks at the PSG lineup, one wonders how many scoring chances they will have. But the Champions League is also a competition of fine margins.”

Of Sheriff he said, “For their debut, they couldn’t have asked for anything better. The Champions League always creates incredible emotions.”
