Ex-Juventus Midfielder Giancarlo Marocchi: “Impressed By Inter’s Denzel Dumfries”

Former Juventus midfielder Giancarlo Marocchi believes that Inter wing-back Denzel Dumfries has shown that he can offer a lot in the Nerazzurri’s win over Bologna at the San Siro yesterday.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, the 56-year-old was complimentary towards the Dutchman who put in an eye-catching performance yesterday evening in his first start since joining from PSV in the summer.

The former midfielder also believes that the Nerazzurri were hard done by in their Champions League group stage opener, coming up against a tough goalkeeper in the form of Real Madrid shot stopper Thibaut Courtois, while their performance yesterday evening showed that they can create chances in the same way but was bolstered by good finishing.

“Inter have exaggerated themselves,” he said. “In the league every time they found themselves in front of the Bologna goalkeeper they virtually always scored. They didn’t do the same against the Real goalkeeper, their finishing wasn’t at the same level.”

“The finishing was different but they created a lot anyway and therefore I am not exaggerating by saying it was a ‘deceptive result’ in the Champions League, because the result on the pitch counts, but Inter also showed that they can create many chances,” he went on.

Marocchi was also very impressed by Inter new boy Dumfries in yesterday’s match, and had positive words for the 25-year-old.

Dumfries assisted the first goal of the 6-1 win against Sinisa Mihajlovic’s men and didn’t look back in yesterday evening’s match, announcing himself as an Inter player.

“What we knew about him, what amazed me a little bit was seeing how fast he was,” the former midfielder said. “Bologna didn’t do enough to stop him, without covering him, putting him in good condition to do well.”

He went on, “There were errors made by Bologna. But we were trying to find faults at Inter. There are a lot of details to Inzaghi’s team. I would find it hard to change anything. It seems like every player is in his right place.”
