Legendary former AC Milan midfielder Ruud Gullit believes that his fellow Dutch international Denzel Dumfries made the right decision to join Inter in the summer.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, the Rossoneri legend gave his thoughts on the former PSV wing-back and suggested that the player could continue his development well playing at the Giuseppe Meazza.

Dumfries joined in the summer with the Nerazzurri seeing the 25-year-old as the best player to strengthen their right side following the departure of Achraf Hakimi.

The Dutchman did not immediately make a significant impact in the first few games of the season, but he made his first start of the campaign over the weekend and announced himself with an excellent performance to help drive his team to a 6-1 rout of Bologna.

Gullit believes that Dumfries has chosen to join the right club and that his qualities make him a good fit with the Nerazzurri’s system where he can really shine going forward.

“I think he has chosen the right team,” Gullit said, “given how they play he can run up and down the wing. He is a player with a big heart, he gives everything he has every game.”

“He was very important for the Dutch team, like de Vrij,” he continued. “Also, in the Netherlands they’ve come to understand that a defender like de Vrij is important for the national team, previously there was a focus on players who know how to play well with the ball, but defending is another matter.”
