Inter striker Lautaro Martinez is one goal away from equalling the totals of two Nerazzurri legends in the form of Lothar Matthaus and Samuel Eto’o.

This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, who highlight how the Argentine reached 52 goals with his strike to open the scoring against Bologna over the weekend, taking him close to the two former greats’ records.

After missing the season opener against Genoa through suspension, Martinez has started every match for the Nerazurri, and he has impressed with a goal in each of his three Serie A starts.

Tuttosport remark on how the 24-year-old has taken up a goalscoring burden and become more of a pure Number Nine within his partnership with new striker partner Edin Dzeko.

Over the past seasons, the likes of Mauro Icardi and then Romelu Lukaku have been Inter’s most prolific sources of goals, but now Martinez looks to take up this mantle, and he could soon eclipse the goalscoring totals of former greats as he shows his newfound prowess in front of goal.
