Italian journalist Fabrizio Biasin believes that midfielder Marcelo Brozovic is one of the most important players currently at Inter, and that the club must make renewing his contract a priority.
Writing in his editorial for TuttoMercatoWeb, the journalist gave his thoughts on the Croat’s influence on this Inter team and made clear the significance of finding an agreement on a new deal with him for the club.
Brozovic’s current contract expires at the end of June 2022, and the club are yet to agree on an extension with the 28-year-old, though it is thought that doing so is a priority.
The midfielder is thought to be happy at the Nerazzurri and ready to sign a new deal, but if he decides not to or the club are unable to come to an agreement with him then they could risk losing him on a free transfer next summer.
Biasin believes that the loss of Brozovic would be a major loss for the Nerazzurri in terms of their style of play.
“Seasons have passed since what we might call ‘Brozovic’s moult,’ that is the midfielder who under the Spallettian management has changed his skin, has given up the role that was unsuited to him to dress as one of the almost indispensable players,” he writes.
“Mind you, you can do without of any player, but some are less replaceable than others,” he continued. “The Croatian – for the amount of work he does, for how he does it, for the ability to play against Real and Binaghese with the same mental ‘software’ – is practically unique.”
He writes that “Because of this, renewal is essential, which is why Marotta and Ausilio are working hard to find an agreement that leads to the extension of the agreement expiring in 2022. Inter offers €4.5 million plus add-ons, the agent asks for almost €6 all inclusive. There is a distance, but fortunately also the desire to fill it.”
