Napoli captain Lorenzo Insigne believes that the Scudetto race this season will be a fiercely competitive one, with a number of strong teams competing at the top of the Serie A table.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia after his team’s 4-0 rout of Udinese in Friuli, the 30-year-old gave his view that the Partenopei were in the hunt for this year’s Italian title but that they face competition from a number of teams including Inter.

Napoli are the only side left in Serie A with a perfect record, having won four games from four to take maximum points, suggesting that they are well-placed to finish in the top four and perhaps make a push for the Scudetto under new coach Luciano Spalletti.

The Nerazzurri and city rivals AC Milan are two points behind the league leaders, having each dropped points on one occasion, while Juventus have struggled in the early going with only two points won at this stage of the season.

However, Insigne believes that these teams and others will be able to provide stiff competition for the Partenopei as the season goes on.

“I think there are many strong teams, like Roma, Milan, Inter, Juve and Atalanta,” he said of the title race. “We think about one match at a time, this is a starting point.”
