Former Inter midfielder Borja Valero believes that Inter are the strongest team in Serie A at the moment, but that their rivals are close to them.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster DAZN after yesterda’s Serie A clash between the Nerazzurri and another of his former clubs Fiorentina, the 36-year-old gave his verdict on the Nerazzurri.

Inter have gotten off to a strong start to the season in Serie A, taking thirteen points from fifteen with only a draw away to Sampdoria as a blot on their record.

Simone Inzaghi’s side sit top of Serie A at least until Napoli play tomorrow, and they have shown that despite changes over the summer they still have the qualities to defend their Scudetto crown from last campaign.

Having seen Inter overhaul a one-goal deficit in a difficult match at the Stadio Artemio Franchi, Valero believes that they are capable of coming out on top among Italian teams.

“Inter gained in confidence, pressed high and found two goals,” he said of the match, “Fiorentina then went a man down and Inter eventually finished them off. Fiorentina’s drop-off was also due to Inter increasing the pace in the second half.”

Of the Nerazzurri’s standing in Serie A he said, “I still see Inter a little above the others, but there is great balance. The club did their job very well, which wasn’t easy this summer.”

And on which of Denzel Dumfries or Matteo Darmian should start on the right he said, “It will depend on the teams they face.”
