Former Sampdoria midfielder Beppe Dossena believes that Inter are Scudetto favourites because the squad want to prove they can compete without Romelu Lukaku and Achraf Hakimi.

Speaking to the program 1 Football Club on Italian broadcaster 1 Station Radio, the former midfielder gave the view that the Nerazzurri squad have a competitive mindset spurred by the departures of key players over the summer.

Inter won the Scudetto in emphatic fashion last season, finishing twelve points clear of their nearest rivals in the table, but following this they experienced a difficult summer transfer summer transfer market which saw the likes of Hakimi and Lukaku follow former coach Antonio Conte out the exit door.

However, Simone Inzaghi arrived from Lazio to take the place of Conte while several new signings were brought in to strengthen the team, each of whom has so far managed to make an impact.

However, it has not just been the new arrivals who have performed well in the Nerazzurri’s good start to the season, but also Scudetto winners such as Lautaro Martinez, Milan Skriniar, and Marcelo Brozovic, who have shown that in a new tactical environment and with different teammates they are still worthy of the title.

“They are still favourites for the Scudetto,” Dossena stated. “Lukaku and Hakimi’s exits stirred the pride and competitiveness in the other players.”
