Inter wing-back Matteo Darmian does not feel insecure of his place in the Nerazzurri squad despite top competition.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster DAZN after yesterday’s Serie A clash with Fiorentina at the Stadio Artemio Franchi, the 31-year-old explained that he is happy with the situation in which his club have depth in his position.

Darmian had an eventful game away to La Viola, struggling along with the rest of his team in a difficult first half before helping to lead a comeback win with a well-taken equalizer and then eventually being replaced by summer signing Denzel Dumfries.

Dumfries’s performance over the weekend against Bologna, and the qualities of Ivan Perisic and Federico Dimarco on the left, mean that the former Torino, Manchester United, and Parma man has plenty of competition in the squad.

However, he believes that the most important thing is that the team has enough strength in every position to compete for their goals.

“Playing for Inter it is normal that there is competition,” he explained. “It pushes you to give more even during the week.”

On his role in the team he said, “I always try to make myself available, to lend a hand to help the team bring home points and victories. When you score important goals you are always happy.”

As to whether he was about to be brought off before scoring his decisive equalizer he said, “I had glimpsed something, but it went well this way. Whoever is called onto the pitch gives his contribution.”

On the halftime adjustments that helped the team to the win, he said that “We addressed some situations. They had a great first half, they didn’t let us breathe. But then we gave a great reaction, turning around the game and bringing home an important result.”
