Inter midfielder Nicolo Barella has registered the second highest number of assists of any midfielder in Europe so far this season, according to a report in the Italian media today.

As has been reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport, Nicolo Barella has assisted four Inter goals in Serie A this season so far, which is only bested by Manchester United’s Paul Pogba.

The Sardinian is level in the standings with German youngster Florian Wirtz who plays for Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga.

If the goal that the 24-year-old scored against Bologna is included, it means that he has participated in five of Inter’s 18 goals so far this season.

Nicolo Barella appears to have been granted more freedom by Simone Inzaghi to break out of the midfield more regularly and aid the attack.

This means he is finding himself in more offensive positions with quality attacking players around him who can finish his passes.
