Former Sampdoria midfielder Gennaro Del Vecchio believes that this season’s Inter team are an extension of the one seen last campaign under Antonio Conte.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Radio 1, the 43-year-old gave his thoughts on the Nerazzurri’s season so far, suggesting that in spite of significant changes over the summer they have retained the mindset instilled by former head coach Antonio Conte.

Conte had two seasons on the bench at Inter, with the former Juventus, Italy, and Chelsea boss guiding the Nerazzurri to a second place finish and a Europa League final in his first season before helping them win their first Scudetto in eleven years to cap off his reign.

The Italian tactician departed at the beginning of the summer, with Simone Inzaghi arriving from Lazio to take his place, but Del Vecchio believes that the former boss’s influence can still be seen in the mental approach of the team under his successor Inzaghi.

“The Nerazzurri are continuing to exploit the mentality instilled by Conte,” the former Sampdoria midfielder said.
