Inter striker Lautaro Martinez is determined to keep working and improving after a draw against Atalanta this evening at the San Siro where the Nerazzurri were not able to take three points after a frenetic encounter.

Speaking to Inter TV after the match, Martinez gave his immediate reaction to a match in which his team had both led and trailed but had to settle for sharing the points after an eventful Serie A clash.

Inter were not able to win a third consecutive match after wins against Bologna and Fiorentina in Serie A, with a missed penalty by them and an overturned goal from La Dea proving to be the decisive moments as neither side were quite able to produce what was necessary to overturn the deadlock with a late winner.

For Martinez, the match showed a good performance against strong opposition, and he wants the most important takeaway to be the importance of continuing to work going forward.

“I’m happy for my goal, but we couldn’t see this match out so we have to work and keep growing because we were ahead at home, but we couldn’t hold onto a lead. It means we have to keep working,” he said.

Of his teammate Niccolo Barella he said, “He is a very important player for us and he is showing it every day by making assists and scoring, so we can only speak well of him as his teammates. We must continue on as a team.”

Of the opposition for this evening’s match he said, “We know them. Atalanta are a team that we have faced many times, today one of those. Always a battle against a team that plays man against man.”

He went on, “Now head to face Shakhtar in the Champions League, they too are tough. We have to prepare, recover and think about the next team we meet.”

“The way the game went I would say the point was earned, but we wanted to win the game,” Martinez went on, “because we were at home and because we were ahead. But now head to the next one, we have to go to Kiev and we have to bring home the three points.”

“Yes, sure [we know Shakhtar well],” he said of Tuesday’s match. “But we still have to do our job, whether we win or not. We have to stay focused and keep working because we are doing well, we are all working well with the coach. We have to go there with character and personality, and show that we can win and take home the victory we need.”

He closed, “Greetings to everyone because as I always say they are an important support for us and even today they were with us, so a greeting to all of them and to my family.”
