Both Inter and Atalanta will feel that they squandered good chances to take all three points from yesterday evening’s match at the San Siro, which finished 2-2 but featured opportunities for either side to do more in an attacking sense.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Corriere della Sera, who note that in the frenetic back-and-forth encounter each team were good value for their goals and could even have scored more.

The most obvious instances which each team will look back on with regret would be the Nerazzurri’s late missed penalty which would have seen them go ahead in the match, and La Dea’s disallowed late winner.

However, these were not the only incidents where it seemed as though one side could take control of the three points, with La Dea having numerous half-chances as a result of their intense pressure towards the end of the first half, and the Nerazzurri following suit in the second half and seeing a few good chances go to waste by Edin Dzeko in particular.

Neither manager will feel that their side held anything back in an intense encounter, but for both teams there will be a sense that the final scoreline could have been more favourable.

“Inter-Atalanta was more an adventure novel than a match, full of twists,” the Corriere writes, “Both teams led and overhauled a deficit until the final 2-2 scoreline, which leaves both of us with a thousand regrets and the unpleasant feeling of having thrown an opportunity to the wind. One wonderful imperfect match with a total count of forty shots (21 for Gasperini’s men).”
