Juventus head coach Max Allegri has agreed with the assessment by Arrigo Sacchi that the likes of Inter, AC Milan, and Napoli are favourites to win Serie A ahead of his Bianconeri side.

Speaking in a press conference ahead of the Bianconeri’s match against Sampdoria tomorrow, as reported by FCInterNews, the Italian tactician downplayed the possibility that his team could get themselves back into the title race easily.

The Bianconeri were widely considered to be among the Scudetto favourites at the beginning of the season, with the return of Allegri, a manager who had guided the club to five Scudetti and two Champions League finals, thought to be the right move to get back to winning ways after last season’s fourth place finish.

However, Allegri’s men have not had a strong start to the season, having to wait until their fifth match to pick up their first win of the season in the form of a 3-2 defeat of Spezia.

“After Juve-Milan I was honest, they could have given us the final blow and they let us stay alive,” he said. “Sacchi is right saying that Inter, Milan and Napoli are the favourites. We are no longer among the favourites, we have dropped a lot of points and now we have to make our way without looking at the standings.”

The coach went on, “We won the match against Spezia, tomorrow we have the same aim against Sampdoria. Then let’s see where we are at the break in November. Inter won last year, Milan are at the top of all rankings since COVID, Napoli have earned five wins and it is normal that this is the case.”

“For us it is a stimulating challenge to return at least to the Europa League places and then from there we go as far forward as possible. We won at Spezia with two deflections. We conceded goals in the open pitch and were lucky not to go down 3-1.”
