Former Inter defender Daniele Adani believes that current Nerazzurri midfielder Nicolo Barella has grown as a player and is showing the qualities of one of the best midfielders in Serie A.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Rai Radio, the 43-year-old gave his thoughts on the qualities shown by Barella in a strong performance against Atalanta in the Nerazzurri’s 2-2 draw against them.

For Adani, the 24-year-old is not just accomplished at any one area of the game, but rather is able to affect matches all over the pitch and make a big impact no matter the state of a match.

He praises the midfielder for his ability to play both with and without the ball and to find ways to contribute to his team across his entire time on the pitch.

Barella has been steadily improving since his signing from Cagliari in the summer of 2019, and Adani believes that the player is really beginning to show his best qualities.

“Barella is always in the right areas of the pitch, where he manages to be creative, decisive, inspired,” he said. “A year ago he was the best along with De Paul and Kessie, today he wins the ball, builds up play, scores and assists. He plays ninety minutes with the right balance, he has matured.”

On the Nerazzurri’s free-scoring start to the season he said, “Inter is a team that plays well, with freedom. Now they have to give continuity to Conte’s work by adding variety to the game even with the substitutions. For example, there is Dimarco who for me can play for the national team.”
