Legendary former Inter goalkeeper Walter Zenga believes that Inter have undergone a stylistic transition playing with Edin Dzeko up top compared to when Romelu Lukaku was at the club.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, the Nerazzurri legend gave his views on the differences between the two strikers.

Last season, Lukaku led Serie A in combined goals and assists, making a significant contribution to the Nerazzurri’s Scudetto charge playing a counter-attacking style of football under Antonio Conte.

The Belgian’s shock departure for Chelsea left the club needing to find a replacement, and with an exact stylistic heir for the virtually irreplaceable Lukaku the Nerazzurri brought in a different kind of player when they signed Dzeko from Roma.

The Bosnian lacks the speed, dynamism, and agility which Lukaku brings to teams, but he has demonstrated other qualities as he has quickly made his mark as an Inter player.

Zenga explained that “Last year with Romelu Lukaku the space in behind was more attacked, now there is Edin Dzeko who comes deep to get on the ball, and when Inter does this it creates extraordinary combinations.”

“With these two teams,” he explained of the Nerazzurri’s draw against Atalanta, “we can see results like this, since they are at a high level and they can both fight for the title. They played to win, without thinking too much about mistakes.”
