Lautaro Martinez is Inter’s first-choice penalty-taker for the season, while summer arrival Hakan Calhanoglu is behind him in the hierarchy.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who report that the missed penalty by Federico Dimarco has done nothing to displace the order of priority from the penalty spot for the season.

Last season, Inter were able to rely on Romelu Lukaku to take penalties, with the Belgian having been very reliable from the spot, but Dimarco’s missed kick against Atalanta highlighted the potential issues with penalties this season.

Martinez has scored six of the eight penalties he has taken so far in his carer, and manager Simone Inzaghi trusts him to be the first-choice taker.

Meanwhile, Calhanoglu has been even more prolific from the spot, converting twenty out of the 23 he has attempted for a rate of 86.9%.

Edin Dzeko has barely converted half of the penalties he has taken, with eleven successful ones from 21 attempts, while Alexis Sanchez has only managed four from twelve attempts for only a third of his total attempts.
