Inter defender Stefan de Vrij believes that the Nerazzurri need to find more balance between defense and attack ahead of their Champions League clash with Shakhtar Donetsk.

Speaking in a press conference ahead of the match, the 29-year-old gave his thought on where the team are at tactically speaking and what they must improve on.

De Vrij links up with former Lazio manager Simone Inzaghi once again this season, having worked under Luciano Spaletti after joining Inter from the Biancocelesti in the summer of 2018 before becoming a vital player in Antonio Conte’s Scudetto-winning side.

The Ducthman is happy to be reunited with Inzaghi and believes that the team is on the right track and continuing the good work that was done under Conte.

“Many concepts have remained the same, even the shape we already knew very well,” he explained, “This is not only true of the defense but for the whole team, even at the offensive level – we create many opportunities, but perhaps we need to find a little more balance. Maybe  these are the things that have changed a bit.”

De Vrij further spoke highly of Inzaghi, and explained that he is happy to once again be working with a manager under whom he experienced a good period in his career while they were together in the Italian capital.

“I enjoyed my time at Lazio and I’m happy that the coach is here,” the Dutchman said. “I’m getting along well with him and his staff, we’ll try to improve and grow together.”
