Former Inter striker Nicola Ventola believes that current Nerazzurri midfielder Nicolo Barella showed great qualities in his performance against Atalanta over the weekend.

Speaking on Christian Vieri’s Twitch channel, as reported by FCInterNews, the 43-year-old spoke of the impression left on him by the midfielder’s display against La Dea.

Ventola as at the San Siro for the Atalanta clash, a frenetic back-and-forth encounter which saw the Nerazzurri take a point from a 2-2 draw having both led and trailed at times before late drama was ultimately unable to separate the two teams.

He was impressed by the tactical and physical intensity on display and felt that Nerazzurri manager Simone Inzaghi affected the game well with his substitutions, but the player who impressed him the most on the night was midfielder Barella who he thought did not put a foot wrong.

Ventola described the encounter with Gian Piero Gasperini’s men as a “Match of incredible intensity and quality. Both coaches wanted pressure, quick ball recovery. Barella played a perfect match. Then there were moments, Atalanta grew into it because they always play their game, but in the end the coaches’ ideas came through.”

He went on, “Dimarco has changed the game. Gasperini suffered from the wrong substitutions, the changes of Inter have made the team irrepressible even for Atalanta.”

On Dimarco’s penalty miss he said, “If everyone gives the ball to him it is because he said that that was the decision and they were happy with how he takes them in training.”
