Legendary former Inter striker Christian Vieri believes that the Nerazzurri have a top team in place from last season and that Simone Inzaghi can continue the good work of his predecessor Antonio Conte.

Speaking on his Twitch channel, as reported by FCInterNews, the former striker gave his view that the Nerazzurri are capable of defending their Scudetto crown from last season as their best qualities are still on show.

The summer transfer window saw the departures of key players from the Giuseppe Meazza in the form of Achraf Hakimi and Romelu Lukaku, but the majority of the Scudetto-winning squad remained.

The task of Inzaghi upon joining from Lazio as Conte’s replacement was always going to be finding the right kind of continuity with Conte’s project to keep winning, and so far signs have been encouraging.

Vieri thought that the best aspects of the Nerazzurri’s style under Inzaghi were on display in their 2-2 draw with Atalanta at the San Siro on Saturday despite not taking three points from the clash.

He called it “A Champions League match. We had fun. Two teams who wanted to win. Atalanta played a great game, they are physically strong and play good football. When they attack they get 4-5 players into the box, always.”

Of the Nerazzurri he said, “Inter are good, they are strong. Lautaro scored a great goal, Dzeko plays well, he makes everyone play well. In my opinion, they win the championship because they are still the strongest.”

Conte’s work was great,” Vieri went on, “he left Inzaghi a great team. Napoli and Atalanta can also win. But Inter did well. I liked De Vrij too. Great pace throughout the game.”

Of under-fire Nerazzurri captain Samir Handanovic he said, “Everyone is criticizing him but I don’t understand why, he’s a great goalkeeper. Malinovskyi takes a stinging shot, has technical quality, strength. Then the rebound can go anywhere.”

And of the decision to have Federico Dimarco take a decisive penalty towards the end of the match Vieri said, “I expected Dzeko or Sanchez to take it.”
