Inter head coach Simone Inzaghi will face a manager he is familiar with when the Nerazzurri take on Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League later today, and the two managers have similar approaches.

This is highlighted in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Corriere della Sera, who state that Inzaghi and Shakhtar boss Roberto De Zerbi have similar tactical philosophies.

Former Benevento and Sassuolo coach De Zerbi left Serie A over the summer to take over from Luis Castro at Shakhtar, but the 42-year-old’s ideas will be familiar to Inzaghi who faced him on a number of occasions.

Inter have looked to play proactive, fast-paced football under Inzaghi so far this season, but in De Zerbi’s Shakhtar they will come up against a side who will likely try and keep possession for spells and produce their own attacking sequences.

The Nerazzurri and Inzaghi will both be familiar with De Zerbi’s approach from having taken on his Sassuolo and they will know not to underestimate the Italian tactician.
