Inter defender Stefan de Vrij is disappointed after his team could only take home a point against Shakhtar Donetsk in yesterday’s Champions League group stage clash.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster SportMediaset after the match, the 29-year-old gave the view that the Nerazzurri hadn’t done enough to earn more than a point from the match, but that this wasn’t enough and that they were not happy with the result.

Inter took a cautious approach against Roberto De Zerbi’s Shakhtar team, looking to be more controlled when they had the ball, and allowing the opposition long spells of possession with the aim of preserving defensive solidity particularly in the second half.

As a result, the match was not as frenetic or back-and-forth as the Nerazzurri’s recent Serie A matches, with neither side finding the back of the net from a few decent chances and the teams having to settle for a point each.

“We can’t be happy with the result, we came here to win and we didn’t succeed,” de Vrij said. “The draw is the right result but we are not happy.”
