Inter head coach Simone Inzaghi is happy with the performance his team put in during yesterday evening’s Champions League draw with Shakhtar Donetsk in Ukraine.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster SportMediaset, the 45-year-old stated that he was pleased to have seen his side limit the attacking threat of a strong Shakhtar side to earn a point.

Inter did not get the result that they were hoping for against Shakhtar, but they also avoided a second consecutive defeat in the Champions League group stage.

They will know that their work is now cut out for them qualifying for the knockout rounds of the competition from a surprisingly competitive Group D currently lead by debutants Sheriff, but they are now up and running with a point after two matches.

Inzaghi’s team will have to take their chances better than they did against Shakhtar yesterday, or against Real Madrid in their opener, but their prospects still look decent.

“I am satisfied,” the coach reflected. “We encountered a team of real quality, which has players of the highest level. We were good at limiting them, Handanovic was nit very busy.”

He went on, “There is regret at not having taken advantage of our opportunities, but we hit the crossbar and came up against a goalkeeper having a great evening. We regret not having won the match, but we will play the second leg against Shakhtar at home. We knew they were a good team.”

“Now let’s think about the double Sheriff matches, then we’ll look at what the standings are,” he concluded.
